I have fished all my life, starting back when I was a wee lad fishing with my uncles in the Eastern part of North Carolina. Then in the seventies I developed my own Real Estate Appraisal firm in Winston-Salem, NC. This enterprise was successful and I found that I had some spare time to fish on Lake Norman, starting in 1981. At the time, Lake Norman was known as “The Dead Sea”, but I managed to find and catch striper’s, catfish and bass. I had the fishing bug bad, so my wife and myself bought us a water front lot on Norman. From that point on, the property that we developed was just a weekend place. Then in 1999 I had a builder friend to build my wife’s dream house and we moved into it on the last day of 1999.
I started (1980’s) off taking clients fishing and they would tell their friends about me and this led me to guiding part time on Norman. Then when I retired in 1999, I started guiding full time on Norman for striper’s, catfish, white perch and spotted bass. From the early 90’s to just recently, I won my fair share or placed in the top five in striper and catfish tournaments.
At the start of this century I got the bug to write about fishing for the benefit of the novice fisherperson. This led me to do some writings for the USCA (www.catfish1.com. ) Later I co-authored a book called “The Catfish Hunters” with Jake Bussolini, a well know author of other fishing books.
I have no fishing secrets and I share them with my clients, whether we are fishing for Striper’s, hybrids, catfish or white perch. So when you book me for a fishing trip, don’t be surprised if I do a little teaching while we are catching some fish.
